History & Introdruction....
Online Automated Race Scoring 321 was originally designed to meet the needs of some complex regatta events. As the base of operations was moving with the regatta it was decided to have a system that could be set up prior to the event and then finish times inputed via phone, tablet or PC, with results calculated and displayed instantly on the event website, thus eliminating the need for for messages to be sent ashore and a results officer spending hours inputting the results. It also eliminated the potential for erros in copying data between communication methods
To use the system you set up the event scoring requirements, entries and race details prior to starting any races, Then, during racing, all you have to do is input/update the start time of a race, then input the finish times of each boat. The scoring is done for you and the resuts are displayed instantly, either on your own website, or by using one of the pages within OARS321, for participants and spectators to view. With so many people carrying smartphones whilst racing the crews often see results within minutes of them finishing a race... useful if there is a close battle on a day f multiple races.
OARS321 operates by you first registering, then completing a few Member details to allow the system to operate. Once you are a Member you have access to a free trail event for up to 2 races, 2 classes and 5 entries. To add to these limits you need to subscribe and pay a small fee dependant upon your needs. It can be set up for a single races of multiple classes and many entries or an annual Yacht Club series of many races throughout the year, but only 1 or 2 class. For full subscribers, it can handle multiple events, up to 999 entries in up to 25 different classes, for up to 999 races using 5 additional handicap systems and up to 25 scoring groups. All is explained later in the Member & Event setup pages.
Although set up for yacht racing, with the complexities of multiple handicap ratings, complex scoring groups it has also been used for other simpler events.. anything that has a fixed time start.. e.g. rowing, cycling, running, etc. We can also custom build events if this system does not cover your particular needs. It is also suggested that if you have a complex requirement that we can assist by viewing your NOR and SI prior to the event to ensure everything is set up correctly.
It is still at early stages of development, and has been tested and used on many events, but your particular setup may unearth some bugs that we have not found yet.. so please bear with us and let us know so we can fix them. We have a constant "wish list' of new features we are developing as an ongoing project. The small subscription fees go towards the server and development costs.
How it operates....
You first have to fill in your MEMBER details >>>>
As a Member you can utilise the free trail Event so that you can see what the system does and how it can be set up for your specific needs. Subscribers can pay a small fee for extended limits and set up multiple events and customise the amount of Entrants, Races, Classes, TCCsets, Scoring Groups etc to meet their needs.
Assuming you have already registered, otherwise you are unlikely to be reading this, you need to complete the MEMBERS details so that all your EVENTS have the correct ownership and contact details. You can also add supplementary users later that can log in to your EVENT administartion to be able to update entrants and input race times etc.
When your Members details are complete your login will bypass the initial pages and head direct for your "base". As a Member you can set up a single EVENT with us to 5 ENTRANTS, 2 RACES in 2 CLASSES, using 2 TCC ratings and 3 SCORING GROUPS.
There are 3 demo events available HERE where you can adjust race start and finish times to see how the system work before setting up your own trial.

MEMBER EDIT PAGE
Each member can "own" 1 or more Events as required and allowed in the package they won.
An Event can consist of any combination from 1 race with 1 class & 1 set of results , through Club Annual Series spanning a whole year to a single multi-day regatta with multiple classes and subsclsses, multiple TCC settings, multiple races and grouped and subgrouped races.
Some examples are available at the DEMO pages.
Beacause of the way Events display the results it is best to have one event per set of results that you wish to display at a single location:
for example... a Yacht Club may have an annual series for 3 classes of yachts with results grouped into 3 series, plus a set of 3 or 4 long distance races held during the year, plus an annual international regatta with multiple classes and complex race & group scoring. These would be best organised into at least 3 separate Events.
